A lot of people, mainly students and guidance counselors, have a problem with the application process to college. Many feel the process should be revised and become more accommodating to all students.
One problem I think should be fixed is that there should be one application for all colleges, similar to Common App, that gets all the basic questions out of the way. Repeating yourself on every college application that you fill out is not only redundant, but a huge waste of time. Another thing that I think should be changed is that colleges should look more at GPA than test scores.
Others would say the application process is fine. Some would say that each school having their own application completely is beneficial to the schools. Many would even say colleges should focus more on test scores because “it shows how well they will do at their school.”
Mrs. Bowler, a Guidance Counselor at CHS, thinks that instead of focusing on test scores, colleges should look at how involved students are in school activities, extracurricular activities, and if students work part time out of school. Regarding the application process, Bowler thinks every application should be free, and shouldn’t include class rank and test scores. She also agrees with me about having one general application for every school, as she also has to answer the same basic questions over and over again which she feels is redundant.
Colleges should revise the whole application process to accommodate students by making it less stressful. I feel like not focusing on test scores as much, making one general application for all colleges with their own questions after, and, and making applications free for all students.
